Hi guys! The day has come – earlier than expected. We couldn’t wait any longer, so we decided to jump right ahead on a pretty sweet deal of a van.
There are so many different vans out there. It’s hard to choose the right one for you and your budget. We were initially thinking on a van with regular height roof such as the Ford Econoline or a Chevrolet Express. This setup would probably work for a single person, but as a couple and a dog it’s damn near impossible. As we dug deeper into research we decided we’d Need a high-roof type of van. So that narrows it down to the following three: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ford Transit or a Dodge ProMaster.
There are pros and cons for each one of them. The one thing about the Transit and ProMaster is – they are relatively newer. Therefore, our budget didn’t allow us to look much into them. The most sensible decision was to look into one of those older Sprinters year 2004-2008.
We scouted Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Cargurus until we found a decent one in L.A. area. It was a 2007 Dodge Sprinter (for a brief period they slapped the Dodge emblem on the North American Sprinter vans). We were happy to discover that it was strictly driven in California, so there was no rust. Upon our initial test drive we were satisfied. Those things are solid. So we went ahead with the purchase and took it home! We are excited to get onto the conversion process!
